About

Julia Postrzech is an interior architect and furniture designer with experience across spatial, furniture and lighting design, as well as exhibition coordination and hands-on fabrication. She has a strong interest in concept-led projects, material thinking and clear spatial identity.

Julia completed her bachelor’s degree in interior and furniture design at Technological University Dublin (2021), followed by a master’s degree in interior architecture at Aalto University (2026). Her initial work focused on public interior architecture, but since has continued into furniture and lighting design.

In her own work, she collects ideas from observations and materials she works with. Intrigued by human psychology, behaviour and perceptions, she tries to bring these thoughts into the physical objects and spaces. Julia’s current designs focus on working in steel metals with simplified expressions.

01. This Lamp Has Feelings
This collection, with subtle references to the human body, uses our imagination and our innate behaviour of attaching human likeness to a non-human. Each lamp represents a couple that is non-verbally communicating with one another, and through their specific body language, they reveal a human emotion. The lamps only let us in to observe, and we can only guess, wonder or assume what they are thinking or feeling.

02. Pick Me BowlPick Me Bowl is a play on form and expression that allows it to explore other typologies such as plate, tray and even a basket for picking fruit. The idea behind the piece is to reimagine a traditional home accessory, the centre piece, as a multi-functional item that is suited for both outdoor and indoor settings. The small collection features three variations: the Loop, the Handle and the Hook.

My grandmother had a box of “trocarts”, I had a box of steel. Her box became mine, and curious, my steel became this table.

Trocar[t]: surgical instrument made up of a metal tunnel, allowing passage through the wall of a body.

05. A Steel Chair This lounge chair is a design test for a complete composition of steel, with the purpose of leaving the nature and raw qualities of the material exposed. Arranged in a straightforward and honest manner, each component uses this material, and through simple modifications, it arranges itself into a square-like geometry. With overlaps and stacking as main method of assembly, the design test proposes an alternative perspective to a lounge chair.

06. Rest in (5) PiecesNamed Rest in (5) Pieces, the project creates a sense of floating islands, unobstructive and quiet, yet always available to take the user away from their immediate physical environment and towards their own, more valuable inner island of mental rest. A mobile is often seen as a distant and delicate construction. In this interpretation with its five floating islands, it invites the user to interact and play with the more tactile variations of wood, minerals, textile and metals. The mobile centres the mind below with its objects and colours, evoking sounds, sensations, and tastes with the user’s vision and touch.
